What have I got to lose?

It’s Barry here and I wanted to wish you a Happy New Year and share with you a new resolution I’ve made for 2015. January is a great time to refresh business and lifestyle ambitions but with the pace of life today, I’m already tormenting myself that time is running out.

So what have I got to lose?

Looking back over the past year, my one big accomplishment was taking a risk and leveraging off ‘safe’ projects to seek opportunity and improvement. (Actually, I was becoming bored with my status quo realising what worked in the past won’t necessary work in the future. If I take my work for granted then so will my clients.)

So I decided to take a risk…like playing my guitar at my business presentations!!!  Yes I know,  that is really going out on a limb, but do you know what? I discovered that is where the best fruit is!

Once I overcame the obvious production difficulties and more importantly, the fear of failure – what did I stand to lose by not giving it a go? Mind you, my ‘No is Negotiable mantra (which you already know about) certainly helped my mindset. It’s worth reminding that 90% of people give up within 10% of achieving their goals, and the word that stops them is No…it can’t be done.

Having courage to try something very different has not only injected new life into my presentations, but unexpectedly opened up a whole new market/audience of ‘boomers’ eager to relive the times and music of their youth. And I can easily satisfy them with my books and Music for Cruizin CD compilations.

While completing my latest book, Take the bull by the horns, I realised how pivotal my 50 year old Fender guitar had been in forging a memorable career in music. It got me out of the conservative times of the 50’s and put me on stage, nurtured self-confidence, and opened a door where the rest of my life was waiting for me on the other side. This motivated me to adapt my book story to the stage; perform the music that influenced, and spotlight the entertainers who inspired me, revealing an ‘unexpected hero’ in my lifetime.

Visit my new website www.barrybull.com and find out more about my Unexpected Hero show – I’m taking bookings.

Importantly, back to my new year message to you today.

  • 2015 is the year to do something completely different. A project you’ve always wanted to do that will make your heart sing.
  • Assess the risks
  • Leverage off existing assets and resources.
  • Take the bull by the horns and do it.
  •  If in doubt, ask yourself …..What have I got to lose?
